St Martin-in-the-Fields Church

United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10135930

St Martin-in-the-Fields is probably the most famous parish church in England. Built in 1726 with a magnificent porticoed front facing Trafalgar Square, the Grade I listed church has recently undergone a thorough renovation. The galleried interior has a large nave, a Royal Box and an Admiralty Box either side of the altar and boasts excellent acoustics. Richly gilded ceiling with original Italian master-craftsman plasterwork. Barrel-vaulted ceiling supported by Corinthian columns. Carved high pulpit. High altar with mosaics. Fine church organ. Below the church is the huge and vaulted crypt, with a cafe, the London Brass Rubbing Centre, an art gallery and a bookshop.
