United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10136145

18th Century, Grade I listed buildings, formerly almshouses for widows of the Ironmongers' Company. Surrounded by gardens with mature trees at the front and herb garden, with culinary, household, aromatic and medicinal plants and a fountain, and period gardens to the rear. Inside, the museum shows the changing style of English middle class living rooms from 1600 to 2000 through a series of period rooms with examples of staircases, panelling and portraits from old London houses. The almshouses' original chapel is still there and has a four- tiered pulpit. An airy glass and red-brick building, the contemporary wing of the museum is home to the Garden Atrium, with panoramic views of the period gardens. There is also a contemporary gallery space.
