The hotel was built in 1882 as an apartment block by Archer and Green, and opened as a hotel in 1902. The exterior retains the balconies, turrets and pillared porticos and inside are marble floors and frescoed ceilings. The traditional Victorian elements blend with 21st Century luxury design by Adam Tihany. Some of the suites are in the turrets and the balcony of the Royal Suite can hold up to 50 people.
