United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10138179
Grade II listed residential and shopping complex in Bloomsbury, designed in 1965-73 by Patrick Hodgkinson. Stark, concrete architecture with tiered flats above (stepped like the Barbican Centre) with access via outdoor corridors creating interesting concrete shapes. The Brunswick Centre's shopping area has recently been redeveloped with a design by Levitt Bernstein Associates and Patrick Hodgkinson. This includes a new supermarket across the north end of the public space, a semi-circular restaurant above the entrance onto Brunswick Square and new shop fronts which will be brought forward to the line of the existing columns. The Centre incorporates the Curzon Bloomsbury Cinema and faces the gardens of Coram Fields.
