St John's Church, Waterloo
United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10138268
St John's Waterloo is a large Georgian church, with a crypt, built in 1824 to celebrate the victory in the Napoleonic wars. In 1940, the church was firebombed, destroying much of the interior. A restored St John's Waterloo reopened in 1951 to serve as the parish church of the Festival of Britain. Recently, it has again been beautifully restored. There is a rear gallery in the church and the churchyard contains a sculpture garden.
