Kempton Steam Museum
United Kingdom / Hanworth, England
Location ID: #10138428
Magnificent Art Deco building (former water pumping works engine house built in late 1920s) and mighty steam engines, standing 62ft tall in an interior the size of a football pitch. From the Portland stone entrance hall to the original tiled and glazed-brick interior, Kempton Steam Museum has been untouched by the hand of modernity for nearly 90 years. The huge, 1,000-ton Triples form a unique piece of engineering history, also providing camera operators with fantastic opportunities for stunning close-up shots and high-level, bird’s-eye shots of the engine house below. The two chimneys stand 134ft high.
The site is well geared for filming, inside and out, and has been used for period and fantasy films as well as engineering documentaries. The site is secure, with plenty of under-cover parking, a 20-ton crane and lift platform to the main doors, plus ground-floor entrances for easy access. The engine house has a modern power supply (discreetly hidden), Wi-Fi and internet access, facilities for making refreshments, toilets, disabled access and office space available.
