The impressive Maughan Library was converted from the 19th Century former Public Records Office and retains some of the original features such as cast iron doors and wrought iron staircases. One of the original record rooms has been restored with all the original document cages. The Round Room is a replica of the reading room at The British Museum. The Western Room has been restored in conjunction with English Heritage and retains its original mosaic floor and stained glass windows. The site also has computer rooms, study carrels and a cafeteria. There are numerous corridors and smaller reading rooms as well as stone staircases and skylights.
