Built around 1882, the library was formerly known as Woodside Convent and later became an orphanage before the estate was bought by Croydon Council and turned into a public library in 1927. Many original features remain. The park includes original avenue of fir trees planted in 1870, old-fashioned children's playground, skatepark and wooden cafeteria with pagoda-shaped roof.
