Storm Water Pumping Station

United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10139977

One of the most interesting buildings in the Isle of Dogs, the Storm Water Pumping Station was designed by John Outram. The roof is in glazed Celedon green tiles and brickwork in blue-grey, red and yellow. The central section of the front is made of blue bricks to imitate the river that flows between the tree trunks represented by the big round red central columns. The round hole of the ventilating fan which splits the gable into two triangular peaks contains the source of the river as if between two great mountain peaks. This building's purpose is purely functional. It houses machinery that pumps storm water into the River Thames.
