The park opened to the public in 1888 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. A railing extends around the park on the north eastern and south eastern sides. There are ponds in the southern part of the site as well as a wildflower meadow area. Mature oak trees line wide central pathways. Sports facilities include a bowling green and pavilion, tennis courts, multi-use games area and a climbing block. There are also a children's playground, a play centre, and a cafe.
