Designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1692, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is set in its own grounds of 66 acres and is home to 300 Chelsea Pensioners. There is a wide variety of spaces and rooms, including the Great Hall, the State Apartments, the Chapel, South Grounds, Ranelagh Gardens, courtyards, cricket and football pitches. The Hospital houses a collection of objects relating to the life and history of the Hospital and a collection of medals worn by Pensioners. The Chapel retains much of the original layout and fittings, and has a painted half dome over the apse. The Great Hall has a marble floor, wood panelled walls, chandeliers and a mural by Verrio.
