The RIBA award-winning Hackney Marshes Centre opened in spring 2011.It is embedded in the landscape, plugging a gap in the trees surrounding the pitches. The 31 spacious changing rooms are arranged in a linear fashion on the ground level. A cafe and two large, bright classrooms are placed above at one end. The cafe has an open viewing terrace provides a great vista across the Marshes. Gabion walls function as a framework for climbing plants, creating a green wall. Weathered steel is used for cladding, shutters and louvres, and will change in colour over time.
