Opened in 2011 and designed by Jestico + Whiles, Aloft London Excel is the only hotel in ExCeL London directly connected to the ExCeL International Convention Centre. The building has a convex central spine, flanked by two concave wings, which are clad in reflective stainless steel shingles which appear to change colour with the passing of the day. There are 252 loft-like rooms, including 12 Savvy Suites with extra-large windows boasting views over Royal Victoria Dock. Facilities include a self-service check-in kiosk, the re:fuel grab-n-go one-stop food and beverage area just next to the hotel reception, the FEDE Restaurant on the second floor, the w xyz bar, six tactic meeting spaces, a gym and swimming pool. There is a spacious double height atrium reception in the centre of the building with a sculptural wooden spiral stairway linking the two levels: the main pedestrian route emerges from ExCeL on the first floor and the vehicular access is on the ground level, where there is a large car park facing the Thames Barrier.
