Built in 1890 as a woollens warehouse, the building was converted into a public library in 1948. The library has a study area, music collection and Chinese Library housing one of the largest collections of Chinese materials in UK public libraries. There is a wrap-around gallery / mezzanine level which overlooks the main floor.
