Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - South Park General Areas (QEOP)
United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10141805
The South Park area of the QEOP includes the flower-filled meadows, a new pleasure garden, with outdoor spaces boasting climbing walls, play areas, seated areas, steps, theatre spaces, carousels, a mirrored bridge and canal walkway. Previously the main pedestrian plaza for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the area has been reinvented as an architecturally interesting series of pleasure gardens. This long peninsula features a tree-lined promenade hung with spherical lanterns and a series of exciting spaces designed to inspire creativity in people of all ages. There are sand pits, water play areas, swings, a climbing wall down to the riverside, a theatre space and a giant fountain with 195 individual computer controlled jets. Around these spaces lie play lawns, formal gardens, planted areas and spots to sit and appreciate the view. At the end of the gardens sits the ArcelorMittal Orbit [please see separate entry]. And there are also views of the Olympic Stadium. There are food and drink kiosks along the promenade and the EastTwenty Bar and Kitchen at the Podium.
