The only surviving manor house in Dagenham, Valence House Museum dates from medieval times and is still partially surrounded by a medieval moat. Following extensive refurbishment in 2010, the timber-framed manor house now contains a series of galleries, a cinema room, a series of gentry portraits (the Fanshawe Collection), a study centre, and a café. The gardens include a herb garden with a green pergola, a Dig for Victory World War II plot with a replica Andersen shelter, and beehives.
