United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10142315

Underground HQ used by Winston Churchill, his chiefs of staff and the British Government during World War II as the command nerve centre. Located in the basement of a government building between King Charles Street and Parliament Square, the wartime bunker is an underground warren of rooms kept as they were at the end of the war. Rooms range from the War Cabinet Room, the Transatlantic Telephone Room to Churchill's office-bedroom, staff rooms and a domestic kitchen. The Map Room includes colour-coded telephones, books and documents piled on desks, wartime maps covering the walls. The Churchill Museum has multi-media displays covering Sir Winston Churchill's life and legacy. Most notable among the exhibits is the 15-metre interactive Lifeline table, which dominates the museum. When filming in the historic rooms, the protective glass panels can be removed to provide greater access.
