Serpentine Gallery
United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10142335
Situated in a classical 1934 tea pavilion and surrounded by the beautiful Royal Park of Kensington Gardens, the Serpentine is a unique Gallery in a perfect setting. Under the patronage of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Serpentine undertook a £4 million renovation of the Gallery which was completed in 1998. The new design, contained within the footprint of the original building, maintains the elegant character of the Grade II listed pavilion. At night, stylish exterior lighting creates a dramatic spectacle for approaching guests. On the grounds of the Gallery is a permanent work by the artist Ian Hamilton Finlay, dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales, the Serpentine's former patron. The work comprises eight benches, a tree-plaque and a carved stone circle at the gallery's entrance, French doors and windows add to the charm and brightness of the interior
