The Rio Cinema
United Kingdom / London, England
Location ID: #10286409
The Rio Cinema is an iconic location for feature films, television shows, fashion shoots, commercials and music videos. The historic venue boasts a bold 1930s exterior and picture palace interior. The stalls and circle of this Art Deco cinema were created in 1937 within the shell of an Edwardian cinema, retaining many original features. In 2017, a new auditorium was created in the basement space.
The Screen One auditorium is the most popular location and can pass for a number of time periods. There is access to shoot in other locations, including the good-sized projection room, which houses a 35mm projector; the foyer complete with bar, popcorn machine and seating area, corridors and offices, and outside the Grade II listed building.
The Rio will always try to accommodate shooting schedules whenever possible. The cinema is a fairly quiet space with subdued lighting; there is plenty of seating throughout the building.
