Description:
The oldest surviving operating theatre in the country, used in the days before anaesthetics and antiseptic surgery. The Operating Theatre is found in the roof space of an English Baroque Church. The museum also features: a Herb Garret where herbs were cured and stored; collections of objects used in medicine before recent science and technology including instruments for cupping, bleeding, trepanning and child-birth; displays on medieval monastic health care, the history of St Thomas' and Guy's Hospitals, Florence Nightingale and nursing, medical and herbal medicine.
