Description:Eastbury Manor House, a Grade I listed Elizabethan building, is owned by the National Trust and managed by the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It stands in 1.5 acres including a walled garden. The exterior retains its original appearance and is a superb example of an Elizabethan gentry house. The Manor has two main storeys, with an attic and cellar, wall paintings, oak panelling, wooden floors and a brick-walled courtyard. Many of the original period features remain. The servants' hall has been restored, while upstairs are two high-status rooms formerly used by residents. Frescoes still survive in the Painted Room, as does the Tudor fireplace in the Long Gallery and oak staircase in the west wing that leads to the western octagonal turret. The house is an arts, heritage and community resource and is open to the public three days a week.
