Description:Built close to Liverpool Street Station to the design of Charles E Barry in 1884. In 1901 a building designed by Colonel Robert Edis was added. Imposing Victorian gabled facade. As well as offering modern hotel rooms / suites, corridors and lifts, it contains several restaurants one of which, The Aurora, has an elaborate glass-dome. The hotel also has a basement Masonic temple with wood panelling and marble. In the central 50ft tall glass roofted atrium of the hotel is an open gallery space. The Egyptian Room now houses the hotel gym and other facilities include a screening room and a catering kitchen that is only used during conferences. There is an ornate semi wood panelled bar on ground level. The fifth and sixth floors of the hotel are new, extending into the domed copper roof.
