Description:One of the oldest fruit and vegetable markets in London and now a thriving successful retail food market set under historic railway arches. The front part of the market was constructed in the 1930s and the main offices contain Art Deco features. The main office boardroom contains wood panelling. The major area of the market is primarily Victorian, with decorative ironwork arches, but has undergone major refurbishment in recent years. The alleyways which criss-cross the market give the area a gritty, urban feel. Two major railway lines pass over the market. A variety of atmospheres from the bright and modern glass Market Hall building to the dark and atmospheric Green Market and the lively and bustling Middle Road Market and Three Crown Square trading area. The market is adjacent to Southwark Cathedral.
