Description:
Paddington Station was first opened in 1854, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and has recently benefited from a major redevelopment to restore the glass roof and refresh the retail area. Features include the impressive train sheds and roof, the station clock, the war memorial, new platform surfaces and a new shopping, eating and waiting area called "The Lawn". The triple roof is of wrought iron and glass, supported by cast iron pillars, with a fourth newer span constructed in steel. The Great Western Hotel, attached to the front of the station was added in 1854. All trains operating out of Paddington are diesel powered, therefore there are no overhead cables or third rails.
