Description:An iconic Grade II listed building designed by Sir John Soane in 1811, famous for its top lighting. Britain's first public art gallery is open plan and displays a collection of 17th and 18th Century Old Masters. All the rooms are open to the central enfilade. The main colour is red with green rooms as well. There are additional 20th Century spaces with a new building designed by Rick Mather in 2000 including a glass and bronze cloister, an art studio, a lecture theatre and cafe. At the back of the museum is the Mausoleum, where the founders lie in sarcophogi. The gallery is set in five acres of gardens.
