Description:
Freemasons’ Hall is a Grade II* listed building filled with beautiful Art Deco Spaces. Covering two acres, the site was built between 1927 and 1933 by Ashley and Newman as the ceremonial and administrative headquarters for the United Grand Lodge. The Vestibules form a ceremonial approach to the Grand Temple, with their design increasing in richness. They can be made into three distinct areas using ornate dividing doors. Accessible solely through the Grand Tower doors and the sweeping marble staircase, they offer a versatile and opulent setting. The Grand Temple is at the centre of the site. Due to internal courtyards, it has external walls on three sides. Huge bronze doors lead into the Temple (120 ft. long x 90 ft. wide x 62 ft. high). It holds approximately 1,700 people including balcony seating. The central panel of the ceiling is a celestial sky with a decorated border, with the arms of the United Grand Lodge of England at each corner. The 15-ft. deep cornice is a handcrafted mosaic, which includes Classical columns and four angelic figures portraying Prudence, Temperance, Fortitude and Justice. The frieze on the walls depicts the 12 signs of the Zodiac. There is a Willis organ console at the end of the dais. The Egyptian Room is nestled in the heart of 60 Great Queen Street. The ornate ante-room leads into the magnificent space, which is adorned with opulent gold accents and stunning grand pillars. The South Gallery has a mezzanine level. The building also features a marble entrance hall, a 160-feet high tower, various halls and function rooms, the original cloakrooms and period gentlemen’s toilets, polished floor corridors, rooftop views and an exterior faced with Portland Stone. Filming can take place any day of the week.
