Description:Formerly a gem in the NatWest empire, this fabulously ornate counting house is now a smart City pub. The building was designed by H C Boyes and built by Cubitt in 1893. Features include a colossal island bar, a huge glass domed roof, aquamarine and gold ceiling, big bank doors, magnificent wood, brass and marble fittings, and the only Great War memorial to be housed within a pub in England. As well as the main room there is a collection of smaller rooms at the back and there are many dining tables running round the mezzanine. Some parts were built on the northern wall of a Roman basilica.
