Red brick and Portland stone were used for the facades. Outside there is a central courtyard, the Court of Honour, with two war memorials and black iron gates, as well as the Council Garden which was also designed by Lutyens with an oval pool overhung by a catalpa tree and other plants and trees used for their medicinal properties. The original Lutyens part of the building as it stands today comprises the Great Hall and the Snow and Paget Rooms with two wings on the north and south sides of the Gates of Remembrance. The Hastings Room has a sumptuous interior complete with Spanish mahogany panelling (capacity up to 400). The Great Hall has high ceilings and pale green marble pillars topped with gilt capitals. The Prince's Room has gold-leaf decorated Corinthian columns and an ornate chandelier. The Garden Room was created by installing an impressive steel bridge which was built across the open space that had been occupied by the former Council Chamber. This is a spacious cafe by day with access to the garden and in the evenings and at weekends transforms to offer a contemporary entertaining space. Roof access is also available subject to safety harness systems and insurance. BMA House also offers the blank canvas of a former bank complete with basement vault.
