Description:Over 300 acres of garden with woodland, open grass, display bedding, herbaceous borders, lakes, vistas, flower borders, shops, cafes, historical buildings, laboratories, great glasshouses. The gardens were first created in 1759 and enlarged in 1772 and 1841 and contain the largest living plant collection in the world. The famous glasshouses include: Palm House; Temperate House, the largest glasshouse in the world at 4,880 sq. metres; Waterlily House; Princess of Wales Conservatory. Other landmarks and buildings include: Alpine House (2006); Evolution House; Bonsai; Kew Palace (see separate entry); Queen Charlotte's Cottage and grounds including a bluebell wood; the octagonal Pagoda; King William's Temple; Temple of Aeolus ; Temple of Bellona ; Temple of Arethusa; Ruined Arch; replica of a Japanese Gateway; Campanile; Ice House; Museum; Orangery, which is now an exhibition area and bookshop; Wood Museum; Marianne North Gallery. Treetop Walkway offers great views - although available only before 9.30am and after 6pm every day.
