Description:The William Morris Gallery is housed in a Georgian house, built in the 1740s and set in Lloyd Park (see separate entry for the park) in Walthamstow. The Grade II* listed building was Morris's family home from 1848 to 1856. The only public gallery devoted to William Morris, it reopened in August 2012 following a major redevelopment. The building is a fine example of Georgian domestic architecture. It was originally called The Water House because of the ornamental moat in the gardens. A new extension was built in 2012, with a tea room, special exhibition gallery and a collection store. At the same time the historic house was fully refurbished, with new collection displays being created on the ground and first floors. The top floor is now a learning and research centre. Displays include printed, woven and embroidered fabrics, rugs, carpets, wallpapers, ceramics, furniture, stained glass and painted tiles designed by Morris himself and by Edward Burne-Jones, Philip Webb, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and others.
