Description:
The Blackfriar is a Grade II listed pub, unique in its decorative scheme. The Victorian pub is on a triangular site opposite Blackfriars station. It was remodelled in 1905 by the architect Fuller-Clark. His theme was the Dominican friars and they appear everywhere in sculptures, mosaics and metal reliefs. The curved bar counter is made of marble and timber. There is an arched room approached through three openings from the saloon and added as a snack bar under the railway in 1917-21. It is lined with marble and alabaster. There is an outside area with chairs and tables.
