Description:Formerly the Essex Filter Beds, the Waterworks Nature Reserve was once home to the East London Waterworks Company which provided drinking water to the surrounding boroughs. The site was shut down in the late 1970 and in 1986 became part of the Lee Valley Regional Park. It has been managed as a nature reserve ever since and in 2002 a large bird hide was built over the central well head providing a "Close Up On Wildlife" experience. There is a Visitor Centre.
