Description:Situated in the heart of the City, the Clothworkers' Hall is the sixth on its site and dates from 1958. In 1985-86, the interiors were refurbished in styles evoking the history of English Classicism from the period of Wren to the present. The Art Deco styled Entrance Hall is reached from a private courtyard through Victorian ceremonial gate. It has Italian travertine marble pillars and trompe l'oeil paintings. There is a grand travertine marble staircase. Beneath the majestic dome, the staircase is adorned with an impressive set of 18th Century tapestries. The ceremonial rooms are on the first floor and include the Livery Hall, the Reception Room, the Library, the Court Room, the Court Luncheon Room and the Drawing Room. The Livery Hall is dominated by stained glass windows, portraits of Honorary Liverymen, a Minstrels' Gallery and a grand piano. The elegant Adam-styled Reception Room has silk-hung walls and a barrel-vaulted ceiling. The Drawing Room has an 18th Century fireplace and Chippendale-style lighting.
