Description:
Mark Masons Hall was built between 1862 and 1865, designed by Sir James Knowles Jnr, and is Grade II listed. A flight of stone steps leads up to the double doorway entrance. The building was designed in the High Victorian style with arched windows, sculpted reliefs, cast-iron gas flambeaux (still in working order), a steeply pitched slate roof and two tall chimney stacks. There are seven floors including a basement. Features include: the panelled entrance hall and a free-standing English style staircase with stone steps and a cast-iron ornamental balustrade; ornate plasterwork in several rooms including the Grand Temple. There is a bar.
