Description:
Trinity House is a Georgian gem on Tower Hill offering a plethora of location filming opportunities both externally and internally with limited parking immediately in front of the building. Located adjacent to and overlooking Trinity Square Gardens, the building has the appearance of a prestigious private residence or club. The working home of the General Lighthouse Authority, the building showcases numerous maritime treasures and artifacts, including the brass bell of the Royal Yacht Britannia. The south-facing entrance (flanked by naval canons), is off cobbled paving behind a distinctive set of iron railings which have been featured in several TV and film productions including 'The Invisible Woman', 'Johnny English Reborn', and more recently and extensively, 'Man vs Baby'. The interiors are characterised by high ceilings, lots of natural light and space. The spacious entrance hall, with its two large encased ship models, leads through to a distinctive twin-curved staircase flanked by marble statues. Over the staircase is an impressive trompe l'oeil domed ceiling and large portraits. Flanked by dark green marble pillars, the first-floor landing and corridor - known as the Quarterdeck - displays numerous paintings, ship models and maritime artefacts including the brass bell. Off this is the Court Room, a large open space with a single-loom carpet featuring the arms of the Corporation of Trinity House, numerous life-size paintings, and a working fireplace. The high ceilings feature another glorious trompe l'oeil painting of maritime themes, and the three curtained tall sash windows offer views of the Tower of London and the Gardens. The Luncheon Room off this is a smaller area ideal for formal dining room set ups, board room meetings, or smaller receptions. The room has a working fireplace and additional portraits of illustrious benefactors and ships models. The main oval-shaped room is the Library at the end of the corridor which is another high ceilinged room offering direct views from undraped sash windows of the Tower of London. The room features two stunning chandeliers, panels of three historic stained-glass panes, and a minstrel's gallery. (Contrary to the name of the room, there are no books on display as these are contained behind locked cupboards). Off this room are two additional areas: the Reading Room, a small dining room which also offers Tower views behind draped windows and interesting maritime artefacts and paintings, and the Pepys Room. The latter has no views and is primarily used for additional storage and/or a separate dance floor at weddings. The venue has a separate manned reception to the east side of the building, an extensive kitchen area, a dedicated private cloakroom, a lift for wheelchair access, and WC facilities on both floors. Trinity House is only ever available for hire on an exclusive-use basis i.e. even if one of the smaller rooms is booked, the entire venue is blocked off.
